A Conversation about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton

Princeton Social Justice is holding an educational session on ENDA, a federal bill that seeks to protect transgender individuals in the workplace. The National Transgender Discrimination Survey of over 6,000 people by the National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force report that transgender individuals experience:

- Double the rate of unemployment as compared to the population as a whole.

- Near universal harassment on the job: 97% of those surveyed reported harassment or mistreatment on the job.

- Significant losses of jobs and careers: 47% had experienced an adverse job outcome, such as being fired, not hired, or denied a promotion.

- High rates of poverty: 15% of transgender people surveyed lived on $10,000 per year or less — double the rate of the general population.

- Significant housing instability: 19% of those surveyed have been or are homeless, 11% have faced eviction, and 26% were forced to seek temporary space.

Although New Jersey has an Employment Discrimination law in effect, it does not cover federal jobs within New Jersey.  If you are interested in working on the issue of ENDA, please contact Allison Woolbert, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
